Kimball Farm is a family run business that began in 1939, and has
been drawing crowds from near and far ever since. The barn which
houses the ice cream stand began as a dairy barn back in 1908. Back
then the Kimball family would wholesale the milk. Right before the
creation of the ice cream stand, John Allen Kimball was considering
processing the milk and selling it house to house, the idea never
came to be, and it was right around that time a salesman was passing
through the area. The salesman stopped to see if he could interest
John in starting up an ice cream stand, purchasing ice cream mix
from him. John decided to try the idea and that is how Kimball Farm began. The Kimball's built an ice cream stand which became the first
location of soon-to-be famous Kimball Farm Ice Cream.

The original flavors included maple walnut, frozen
pudding, peppermint stick and more. In the beginning, cones
sold for five and ten cents and banana splits sold for twenty-five
cents. Ever since then Kimball Farm has been operated by the family,
John ran the business and his three children worked in the stand.
In the early eighties, the business was passed down to John's
grandson's, Michael and Peter who run the Farm today. Since
taking charge they have made several large developments in the
business. In the late eighties Kimball Farm started it's second
branch and added an ice cream stand in the nearby town of Carlisle, MA. Followed by a driving
range, nine hole pitch and putt golf course, adventure style mini-golf and bumper boat pond. Along with this they opened
an outdoor luncheon grill, all at their Westford location. There is also a location in Jaffrey, NH, featuring a restaurant and ice cream stand. |
