Famous since 1939 for legendary ice cream, Kimball Farm has grown at a memorable rate. The farmhouse now known as the ice cream stand began as a dairy barn in 1908. At that time the Kimball family sold milk wholesale. In 1934 John (Jack) Allen Kimball and his wife Clara considered processing the milk and selling it house to house. This idea never came to be. As fate would have it, around this same time, two salesmen stopped by. One selling his freezer cabinets, the other his ice cream mix, suggesting that ice cream may be the best route. The couple decided to go with the idea. So in 1939 the woodshed on the end of the house was turned into an ice cream parlor. Slowly but surely, Kimball Farm made a name for themselves. Finally, Jack decided to eliminate the dairy aspect of his farm and place all his focus on the ice cream. Then in 1975, Jack and Clara relocated the ice cream operation into the barn where it remains today, becoming the first location of the famous Kimball Farm Ice Cream.

The original flavors included maple walnut, frozen pudding, peppermint stick and more. In the beginning, a quart of ice cream was sold for seventy cents, a cone for five cents and banana splits for twenty-five cents. Ever since, Kimball Farm has been owned and operated by the family. John ran the business and his three children worked in the ice cream stand. Then, in the early eighties, the business was passed down to John’s grandsons, Michael and Peter, who run the business today. Since taking charge, they have made several large developments in the business. In the late eighties, Kimball Farm started its second branch and added an ice cream stand in the nearby town of Carlisle, MA. Following this came a driving range, nine hole pitch & putt golf course, adventure style mini-golf & bumper boat pond along with an outdoor luncheon grill & seafood shack, all at the Westford, MA location. There is also a location in Jaffrey, NH featuring a restaurant, ice cream stand and country store.
